Since 1996 Charlie has painted over
a dozen murals in Myrtle Beach area schools, homes and businesses. Especially with the school murals, he does
extensive research in rendering local sites and wildlife. Consequently, these murals endure as credible study-references
as well as inspiration for children and teachers alike.
Most clients have a general idea of what they want to depict in their mural. But the best murals seem to come after a
period of experimentation with concept and sketches developed in conference between the artist and the client. This
seems to develop a richer view and the final concept escapes the confines of an idea fixed "too early".
Charlie usually paints the murals in his studio in the finest artists' acrylics on very smooth and durable marine plywood
panels made for outdoor signs. The client is welcome to visit the studio at any time to check the work in progress.
During the painting process, single panels are brought to the site to test the color and lighting. When completed the
panels are flush mounted on a grid of lumber which is attached to the site's wall. This creates a mural, which can later
be moved, if necessary.
Framing appropriate to the subject and the surroundings can be adjusted and finalized at this point. The finished work
is a durable image spanning lifetimes and references to precious periods of living and learning for thousands.
